It has been decided (22-13 in votes) that Australia and New Zealand will joint host the 2023 Women’s World Cup! I can’t imagine this will make up for the disastrous vote in 2010 that humiliated Australia’s bid for the 2022 tournament but it will no doubt be celebrated by all. Both teams are regulars in the Women’s World Cup realm with the Matildas of Australia making it to the Quarterfinals rather regularly.  They will undoubtedly be buoyed by being co-host and have a few years to prepare.

The article linked above from ESPN provides some great details on hopes for the economic impact on both countries as well as how organizers feared the bid would be stolen at the last minute (only, it wasn’t).
