Rating the Top 4, Middle Tier & Bottom 16 Home Kits for Qatar 2022

Introduction to the Rankings

About six weeks ago, a group of self-proclaimed World Cup jersey aficionados reached out to enquire if we would accept guest posts executing a jersey-ranking for all 32 teams. There are already hundreds of jersey rankings out there, so it didn’t sound too appealing at first.

However, this group supplied samples of their ideas along with a series of impressive visuals that would be provided once all kits were announced. We came away impressed; plus, they supplied all the content so we didn’t have to do any extra work!

Their geopolitical and geographical quips are reminiscent of prose many seasoned commentators have provided in major soccer publications floating around on the internet. The comments also felt like a creative way to learn more about the jerseys each team will be wearing in Qatar.

As a bonus, this banter may ease some of the unnecessary stress and tension of booking accommodations and tickets for World Cup 2022 by sharing a smirk or two.

The Home Kit Ranking

Ranking Format

Summarizing their process, the group of 4 decided to focus on home kits only (for now) and created a mini competition to crown a jersey World Cup winner. All 32 home kits were rated on appearance and heritage, and then they were placed into one of three categories:

  • The “Eliminated”
    • 17 to 32, aka the Bottom 16
    • Like the real 2022 tournament, half the teams were eliminated immediately.
    • In no order, these are considered the worst home kits of 2022.
  • The “Knockout Rounds”
    • 5 to 16
    • In no order, these home kits are the middle tier 12 that impressed but aren’t quite Top 4 where hardware is on the line.
  • The “Top 4”
    • Ranked Champion, Runner-up, 3rd Place, 4th Place.

Defining Home Kits

The home kits were pulled from FIFA so before anyone argues “our home kit is A and away is B”, this is correct.
